In Greene County district court Melissa Marie Kroupa, 38, of Grimes was sentenced to five years in prison April 13 after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of burglary-third degree (motor vehicle). The prison term was suspended and she was placed on probation for three years. She must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. Kroupa was fined $750 with a $262.50 surcharge; both were suspended. The judge ruled she is unable to pay for her court appointed attorney. She must pay a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge and $734.06 court costs. A charge of burglary- second degree was dismissed. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)
Jesus Moises Zuniga Jr, 19, of Jefferson was sentenced to five years in prison April 13 after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession with intent to deliver marijuana. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for three years. He is to reside at a residential correctional facility until maximum benefits are attained. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. His driver’s license was revoked for 180 days. Zuniga was fined $750 with a $262.50 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay a $125 LEI surcharge and a $10 surcharge for drug abuse resistance education (DARE). Court costs were $100.
In another case against Zuniga in which the disposition was entered 7/28/17 on charges of carrying weapons and burglary- third degree (motor vehicle), he was charged with probation violation. His probation was modified so he shall reside at a residential correctional facility until maximum benefits are attained. He is to remain under supervision and report to the facility as his probation officer directs. The sentences in the two cases are to be concurrent.
A companion case to the controlled substance violation in which Zuniga was charged with criminal mischief- fifth degree was dismissed. He must pay victim restitution in that case. (Sentencing: McCarville)
James Lee Hoyle, 19, of Beaver was sentenced April 14 to 365 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of assault- serious amended from assault causing serious injury (felony). The jail term was suspended and he was placed on unsupervised probation for one year. Hoyle was fined $315 with a $110.25 surcharge and a $125 LEI surcharge. Brett Dwaine West, 41, of Jamaica was sentenced to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of theft- second degree. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for three years. The probation is concurrent to probation in another Greene County case and to a Guthrie County case. He must complete the program at a residential correctional facility. West was fined $750 with a $262.50 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay $500 restitution, and a $125 LEI surcharge. A charge of burglary- third degree (motor vehicle) was dismissed.
In the other Greene County case, West was sentenced to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for three years, with the same stipulations as in the above case. His driver’s license was revoked for 180 days. He was fined $750 with a $262.50 surcharge; both were suspended. A judgment was entered for a $10 DARE surcharge and a $125 LEI surcharge. Zachery Allen Waters, 21, of Grand Junction was sentenced to six months in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. The jail term is concurrent to the terms in all pending sentences. His driver’s license was revoked for 180days. Waters was fined $315 with a $110.25 surcharge, a $125 LEI surcharge and a $10 DARE surcharge. The judge ruled that because he will be incarcerated he is unable to pay restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees. Court costs were $258.90. Trial dates were set for June 5 in every case.
